The Grand Canyon

Voted one of the best walks in Australia on our doorstep

The historic 6km loop track takes you into the heart of the World Heritage-listed landscape. It's an intimate and adventurous track which walkers have trodden since 1907. Located just 600 meters from Chalets at Blackheath or a short 10-minute walk to Evans Lookout and you'll arrive at the entrance to The Grand Canyon. A slow stroll through the canyon will take around 3 hours to complete the loop, exiting the walk at Neates Glen carpark, just a few minutes walk back to the chalets.

Widely regarded as one of the most impressive walking tracks in Australia, the Grand Canyon Walk will leave you in awe as you hike through a beautiful landscape of lush rainforest with several creek crossings, small waterfalls, high cliff walls, and rock overhangs to take in. The well-shaded track meanders through luscious native vegetation of ferns and golden wattles and remains close to Greaves Creek with an abundance of native plants that line the Grand Canyon track.

Although this is challenging walk, you don’t need specialist hiking or abseiling equipment, so comfortable walking shoes are all you’ll need to get out there and explore. Please speak to our resort ambassadors if you would like to borrow some hiking poles.

Evans Lookout

Breathtaking panoramic views over the Grose Valley

Located just 600 meters from Chalets at Blackheath or a short 10-minute easy walk. For a little added adventure, grab the resort e-bikes and head through the national park for a peaceful ride down to the lookout with a thermos of tea.

The Blue Mountains has no shortage of amazing lookout points, but Evans Lookout is certainly one of the most impressive ones. With unbeatable views of the Grose Valley and its surrounding cliff walls, a trip to Evans Lookout and next-door neighbour Valley View Lookout is a must see. It's also the starting point for various exciting bush walking tracks such as The Grand Canyon and The Cliff Top Track.

Located a scenic 20min drive from Chalets at Blackheath - Open for lunch on Saturday or Sunday, dinner Thursday to Sunday.

Megalong Restaurant is set up amidst the LOT 101 farm and vegetable gardens in the beautiful Megalong Valley where nearly all the vegetables, fruit and herbs on the menu are grown organically on site, in large gardens that visitors can walk through and learn about from the onsite production managers.

LOT 101 cattle and sheep and other locally sourced proteins are also used. Regeneration and organic agriculture underpin the farming ethos at LOT 101, and seasons inspire the Megalong menu.

The black truffle is prized by foodies for its intense, earthy taste, and in the winter months of June to August, the hunt is on to find them. These buried delicacies prefer to grow in rich soil in a cold climate, with frosts adding to the intensity of flavour. So rug up, pull on your gumboots and join the hunt while relishing a gourmet getaway in one of New South Wales’s prettiest locations.

Lowes Mount Truffiere in Oberon, approximately 1 hour’s drive from Chalets at Blackheath, you can forage for truffles, taste them in the truffle room, and enjoy a tasting platter of truffle paired delights. This family-run farm is surrounded by pine forests overlooking the beautiful Tarana valley. You can pick up fresh Périgord black truffles (June to August) along with a selection of truffled products such as truffle honey and truffle salt.

Situated in the iconic Blue Mountains in New South Wales, Chalets at Blackheath is located approximately 120 kilometers or a 1.5 hour drive from Sydney. Nestled at the top of The Grand Canyon and just 600 meters from Evans Lookout.

Self-Drive
It is our recommendation to self-drive and have a vehicle to explore the area and local restaurants. Please ask our resort ambassadors for recommendations of places to stop along the way. There are a number of fantastic lunch or quick coffee stops or quaint villages to explore.

Private Transfer
Chalets at Blackheath has a number of partnerships with external private transfer companies, including a sustainable luxury car service arriving in style minus the emissions in a Tesla. Our resort team are here to help you find a driver.

Helicopter Transfer

Choosing to align our business with some of Australia’s most progressive designers who share the same dream for sustainability, our interiors feature opulent design brands made right here in Australia.

An organic palette of locally sourced natural stone, hemp, raw earth and clay-based wall finishes are the feature throughout the chalets, drawing inspiration from the surrounding sandstone tablelands. Not only does this look beautiful and provide health benefits, its an environmentally sound non toxic material and provides a natural fire proofing with thermal temperature control.

Thoughtfully designed to invite as much natural light in, our floor to ceiling windows maximises views and warmth from sunlight, reducing the amount of electricity needed helping the chalets to feel comfortable and cozy in our cool alpine environment.

Each chalets unique skillion roof design makes water collection easy due to its steep pitch funnelling maximum amounts water into our onsite UV-filter water treatment system storing up to 50,000 litres. Guests can enjoy twin rain showers in their spacious open plan nature-inspired bathroom with clean crisp mountain water.
